Our priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our children.
In response to the devastating tragedy in Parkland, Florida, Speaker Tim Moore immediately formed a select committee to study and make recommendations on ensuring a safe learning environment for our children. The House Select Committee on School Safety conducted numerous meetings, listened to experts, children, parents and concerned citizens to comprehensively examine and evaluate ideas to improve the security and safety of our children and our teachers in their schools.
The Republican-led committee earned widespread praise for moving on comprehensive legislation to accomplish the goals of the committee – protecting your children.
In the 2018 North Carolina budget, Republicans allocated $35 million for school safety initiatives, used $241 million from the state's lottery fund to build, upgrade, retrofit school facilities, and funded more mental health professional and school resources officers to keep our schools and students safe.
